Embracing Sourdough This Swimsuit Season

We are all about embracing Sourdough this Swimsuit season. Because eating healthy doesn’t have to mean cutting out all the carbs, especially when they’re the good kinds of carbs.

Here’s why. We believe that, if done the artisan way, Sourdough bread can not only be good for the soul but for the body as well. Using only natural leavens and slow fermentation to create that wonderful aroma and texture, it’s the way we used to make bread hundreds of years ago. And with only 3 ingredients to make the dough; flour, water and salt; authentic Sourdough is 100% natural, lasts longer, and is full of minerals and lower in gluten, making it easier to digest than some industrial breads.

In fact, there are many ways to enjoy Sourdough bread as part of a healthy and balanced diet this coming season. Good In Bread’s contributing nutritional therapist Stephanie de Chillaz summarises it so perfectly well: ‘Sourdough is a complex carbohydrate so it is always a good idea to pair that with some protein or healthy fats.  Protein and fat get absorbed much more slowly which helps to keep us fuller for longer and as sourdough is low glycemic, as mentioned earlier, blood sugars will be released more slowly from that too.  I love to lightly toast sourdough and eat it with almond butter, a soft boiled egg or some avocado and a drizzle of olive oil.  That will keep you going all morning or afternoon without the need to snack!’

Stephanie adds that ‘Breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day for me and I like to give my kids a breakfast with sustenance so that includes some protein and low glycemic index carbs which means carbohydrates which are absorbed more slowly so blood sugar levels remain balanced throughout the day.  An example of this may be a soft boiled egg with sourdough toast soldiers, porridge with a handful of berries and nuts or full fat yoghurt (coconut yoghurt for me) with homemade granola, sliced pear and berries.’

So why not make Sourdough an integral part of your meal planning this Summer season?!
