Tuna Melt Sandwich
A classic American sandwich, reimagined with proper sourdough.
Tuna Salad
- 140g can tuna in water (drained very well
- 30g store bought mayonnaise
- 1 celery stick (chopped)
- 15g red onion (thinly chopped)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- salt & pepper to taste
Sandwich
• 4 slices sourdough bread
• 2 slices medium cheddar cheese• 2 tablespoons butter
Method
- In a bowl, add the drained tuna, mayo, celery, red onion, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Use a fork to flake the tuna apart and mix until well combined.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread. Spread the tuna salad evenly over the non-buttered slices of bread. Top with 1 or 2 slices of cheese and close with the sandwich, buttered sides facing outwards.
- Heat a large pan over medium-low heat. Add the sandwiches to the pan, cover with a lid, and cook for about 3-4 minutes. Using a spatula, turn the sandwiches to the other buttered side and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy and golden.
- Using a spatula, transfer the sandwiches to plates and cut in half. Enjoy!
